DEAR HOST FAMILIES AND STUDENTS
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for participating in our cultural exchange program. In a time full of uncertainty, where the threat of terrorism is a daily concern, the need for these programs takes on even greater importance and significance. In today's world there is already too much misunderstanding of our "global neighbors". Through programs like Face The World, the youth of today can help spread the message not merely of tolerance, but true understanding and genuine friendship into the global community of today and tomorrow.
The fact that these programs were created after World War II is quite significant. The mission of "breaking down the walls of misunderstanding" has evolved into a true
cultural exchange demonstrated through the experience of our own students each year. There are hundreds of wonderful stories shared with us by our own students and their host families that continue to promote these values, and strengthen the movement towards unity and peace in our world. We have a fantastic group of students who have come over with open hearts, open minds, and the courage to live their dreams and make them real.
The heart of our program is our host families. They open their homes and welcome these students into their families; making them a true family member! The American spirit is alive in each one of these homes. It is important for all of us to recognize and thank each family for their unconditional contribution and courage in opening up their lives and homes to our students.
As you move through this year, I hope some of you will take the time to write to us about your experiences. We want to share them in the hope of touching all of our participants with the real meaning and value of their generous contribution to our program.
"Life shrinks and expands according to One's courage." I want to thank each one of you for having the courage to step away from what is familiar and easy, and come to live in your second home with your American family through our program. You are truly making a contribution to the future of a more tolerant and peaceful world, and you will carry the future with you!
